So where have you been? Why did you stop posting? (Not that I was ever that consistent.)

Let's start in 2016. I got a new job, day job, pay most of the bills variety. This is just the be a responsible adult variety position, nothing I feel passionate about, but I do like to have a roof over my head and food to eat, so I am thankful for that. I also got a part time job as a group instructor at a chain boxing gym, where I worked for four years until the great pandemic hit. The club closed down temporarily and reopened in June, but has now closed its doors due to lack of profit. There have been pandemic changes at my day job as well, most employees are now working from home. I work from home two days a week and come into the office three days a week. As one of the support staff I am responsible for getting hard copies out to clients for my own projects and for those not coming into the office. (Not thrilled about that.) I also joined a BJJ/MMA gym during that time and participated in a little smoker (unsanctioned, rather informal fight). I have since decided to stop training as it is not something I am looking to pursue any longer. In 2018 I obtained my personal trainer certificate, as I wanted to be a more knowledgeable and creditable trainer at the club I worked at. So, not much completed on the art front.

The pandemic has hit everyone a little differently, some very hard both financially and mentally. Many of us are left social distancing with close family members or our pets, without the uplifting smiles of friends or family. Those of us antisocial, social anxiety riddled hermits didn't see much of either before the pandemic hit but still are having difficulty in the lack of option to socialize if we need it. If you are feeling like you need an ear, feel free to email me. If nothing else, I can provide an ear to listen.

This year I have produced a bit of artwork here and there.. some experiments in my sketchbook with mixed media (ink, gouache and gold leaf). I am doing my best to post those images to my Instagram account. https://www.instagram.com/jenifertrottier/ I also hopped on the TikTok train and hope to post more art there as well.. hopefully once I reach the minimum followers I can go live and do some live artwork/sketches and have discussions there as well. I would love more ways to reach the art community.

I hope to come up with some t-shirt designs and product designs for next year, perhaps through TeePublic or Society6. Thoughts? Ideas?

What have you been up to? What are your goals and how have they shifted because of the new environment the pandemic has made us adjust to? How can we make something positive from this situation? Let's get creative and blaze a new tomorrow.

Much love,

Jen T.

TrottierJShttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05344754470657532143noreply@blogger.com0Concord, NH 03301, USA43.2086343 -71.548656214.898400463821154 -106.7049062 71.518868136178838 -36.392406199999996tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7569915483898218551.post-84046508109158820902015-01-24T13:05:00.000-05:002015-01-24T13:05:11.601-05:002014 Was a Whirlwind and I am behind on the blog posts. I just wanted to post a quick check in. 2014 was a whirlwind of a year. I started off by taking SmArt School with Dan Dos Santos. As an artist, there is no end to the learning. In order to grow as artists, as people we must learn and grow. We venture out into the unknown and practice is a constant. Sketching for an artist is something that looks much like an obsession. We carry sketchbooks and pencils everywhere, our eyes glaze over at shinny new pens or a bright new pad of paper. Artists may very well be some of the oddest people you will ever meet. They follow their soul and passion, rejecting the norm of society. We are the outsiders that speak with images, sculpture, dance or music.

I ran off on a bit of a tangent there.. forgive me. My mind does wander so. Back to 2014 review.

This summer I attended IMC (Illustration Master Class) in Amherst, Mass. with ridiculously talented and kind and supportive instructors, where I found faeries with Brian Froud. The week long workshop is a full immersion with about 90 fellow artists. We live on campus, sleep in dorm rooms, eat in the car, and spend hours in the art studio tweaking our work, watching live demos and listening to lectures from professionals that have successful careers in illustration. An experience I won't soon forget and will be repeating in 2015!

So with no further ado.. here are paintings from 2014.
As a geek at heart, I have fond memories of watching episodes of Dr. Who on public television. As a person who loves a good story, Dr. Who always had fun tales to tell. The Doctor and his companions were always off to the next great adventure. I was captivated by space and all of the different aliens. The stories fueled my imagination and still have an influence on me today.

In honor of those memories and the Doctor's 50th, todays drawing is Doctor Who themed.

I decided on one of the Cybermen for my subject. A little 4.5"x6.5" drawing which is available for sale $35.00.

For those who don't know what it's like to be an artist, I'd like to talk about practice and what really goes into a finished painting or drawing.

Artists are driven individuals. They hold a passion for creating and in order to improve their skill, they must constantly draw, sketch or paint. Keeping up the level of technical skill in order to create their finished pieces. Many artists have a level of talent but it is nothing without hard work and consistency. The creative mind must be honed, sharpened. It is a way of seeing and translating what they see to what they create with their medium of choice and this is something that takes practice. It's all about milage. The more you do the better you become as with any skill.

The key is loving what you do and enjoying the journey.

Cheers!

I was most fortunate to hear about this workshop from a very talented and hard-working artist, Travis Louie (please check out his work here http://travislouie.blogspot.com), this January and tried to sign up for the 2013 class (which is in June) in February but to my surprise the workshop was full!

I did get to drop by last years workshop for a day to see what the students were creating. It is truly breathtaking to see the creation of the artwork that was being created as well as the camaraderie between students. A small community that meet for a common goal. To learn and share a passion for creation. It's a beautiful thing!

So much of the artist's life is often spent in isolation. Hours and hours in front of a piece of paper or canvas. It is so nice to see what happens when you have a group of like minds with different influences and inspiration come together in the same room.

There are amazing instructors, professional illustrators in their own right, teaching and giving demos and lectures. It's like ... paradise!

Needless to say.. I'm excited and looking forward to learning all I can. Until then I will be sketching and painting up a storm. The more practice the better. It is a never ending process.

Cheers!
Did I waste my college years on education that was not specific enough? Was there something that I could have focused on that would have landed me in some career that would have benefitted both me and my employer? Should I go back to school? Get a degree in Graphic Design or computer animation or concept design? Would it pay off? Could I get hired after acquiring more debt? If I don't try how will I know? (thoughts that run through my head).

After having picked up and left Jersey to come north and join my family in the great white freeze I am looking for an entirely new direction. Perhaps it's time to move again? I don't know yet. I still plug along with what I have and try to think of different paths I might enjoy more. Something that would be more fulfilling.

Any ideas?

Recent developments: I have volunteered to be a friend's guinea pig for her new upstart as career counselor. I think I may be a bit daunting as her first project as I often feel as though I was blindfolded and spun around until I've lost all sense of direction and now stumble around in the dark looking for what it is that would make me happy. It's not to say that I am "unhappy". I just think there is room for improvement.

I have also decided to switch mediums from acrylic to oils. I have been fighting with the acrylics and blending ability and I am hoping that this will help, besides I loved oils in college and absolutely hated acrylics. I avoided them at all costs. I have come leaps and bounds from where I was in college and hope that going back to a medium I loved then will help me grow even further.

Affirmation: I will travel this year. I will go to Saratoga Springs to surround myself with great friends and creative people, Juliet Harrison, Kimberly Santini, Linda Shantz and Sharon Simons-Passmore.

Oh and I sent a friend a fishing themed painting "baited". She should get it along with "Inspired" this week. I can't wait to see what she says.TrottierJShttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05344754470657532143noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7569915483898218551.post-48325969935520173142013-01-17T20:04:00.003-05:002013-01-17T20:04:49.619-05:00New Job and making plans.I did end up finding a job, which is a relief. It is always nice knowing there is steady income to pay bills. On the downside I have less time to paint and draw but I am still trying to keep up the flow on the weekends and evenings.
Here are a few I've completed since the move to the great Northeast.
Changes that make us throw everything we have known, our daily routine, in the garbage and start from scratch. These rearrangements in life are usually scary, most change after all is. I have come to such a point in my life. Everything I thought would be my future was changed a couple years ago and I adjusted, but only partly, to my new life. As of the beginning of this month, October, I have forced change on myself. I have moved to another state hoping that I will build a new future. I have dropped my secure job for unemployment, albeit searching again currently to replace the income in order to be closer to family.

As I have been away from "home" for about 15 years, I must start from scratch. I must learn to bend with the blowing storm. Only time will tell what the future holds, but then what's new? The future is always a mystery.

In the meantime I have been busy drawing away. Ideas perhaps for paintings to come. Also, I have a dog commission portrait I am eager to begin once I get my new palette. New paintings to come soon!

Wishes to all of you for a bright happy day, today and every one hereafter!TrottierJShttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05344754470657532143noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7569915483898218551.post-91623527714639805672012-08-26T07:47:00.000-04:002012-08-26T07:47:08.675-04:00Another image dump. New Paintings and DrawingsLike everyone else, there are times when I don't feel like doing something. Sometimes I don't feel like painting. Lately I have not been very motivated to hold a brush so I have been sketching. Often I will pickup a pencil or pen and just come up with new ideas and subjects for future paintings. There is a certain about of planning that goes into a painting, subject matter, perspective, composition, design etc.I do have a handful of new paintings to share but the majority are little graphite and ink drawings which I will share with you now.

Ok so I've been pretty bad about keeping you all up to date on the blog posting. To be honest I've been both busy and lazy. I know, I know that seems rather contradictory but bare with me. I've been in the midst of a life overhaul. (Relationship drama, nuff said)

2010 Last year I had a piece (That's How I Roll) accepted into the "Art of the Horse", a nationally juried exhibit put on by the New Jersey Equine Artists Association. A really nice show that is held at the Somerset Art Association here in New Jersey. I also had the pleasure to be invited to show some of my work at the equine themed show "Le Cheval" at the Cazenovia College Art Gallery with some other very talented artists. Although I did not create any paintings in 2010 I was a part of the Sketchbook Project and I am having a great time doing another this year.

2011 I started this year at a full out run. I was lucky enough for an fellow artist to see my work and recommend me for a First Friday venue in Scranton, PA. After agreeing to hang my work I was more than aware how much I needed to come up with to have a passable show. So away I went. A holy terror with a brush and canvas. I painted thirteen (13) new paintings from March through June. (Pictures to follow). I've painted a couple since then as well.
Available for sale for $275.00. I really enjoyed painting the light on the silver roof and white walls of the barn. Every painting I paint I learn a little more. I find painting is a great way to relax and let the stress of work just melt into the background. This piece is available for purchase along with the Boot Still Life painting, Acrylic on canvas, $250.00 (14"x11").

If you are interested in purchasing a piece please contact me at
equineartist21@yahoo.com and list art in the subject line.TrottierJShttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05344754470657532143noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7569915483898218551.post-78914378804405622882009-12-30T20:51:00.004-05:002010-01-05T14:11:26.395-05:00Boots - A Still Life<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 260px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqob8zZdKFYjR9M1Pjdb7HM_q4wOD9fy7areyhN1Lydfl3qHtKmlkHopwOQdSY3oGeILUDd2nNC5LqkrEGZZERdVoPlF935u6cGlJUzVQIQZ7OFzkFEHuy_Qqaku4zlbPMcWLmh720lCa3/s320/BootStill.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5423335431818050658" />

Time for a still life painting!!! I fully enjoy watching the buds opening on the trees, seeing the grass turn green again and the extended time with daylight is great too!!!
Since it is the season of awakening, my husband and I are in high gear cleaning house shaking off our winter hibernation groggyness. I have to admit that I have not been as busy painting as I should be but soon I will be hitting those canvases again. I have two painting in progress, which I will post soon, that I need to get back to.
Happy Spring to all !!!TrottierJShttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05344754470657532143noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7569915483898218551.post-84084332200218528722009-01-11T16:22:00.009-05:002009-01-12T10:34:48.638-05:00Hunter-Jumper - Work in Progress<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 239px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeIG0L8SdhEQmlhn5IDJ_SCPXPTu2luhAljGVOLICBpJdqSfZ_VYi6Kjcd4CRb7mvAHTCNI-gBv5il7gNKtG_5sNGQNx2QUvQoOc7Ug3rmA8nLy7g1Odw6rJB_WekvM4IwdpQnDu9yxsLN/s320/huntershade.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5290155817899286066" />

As I enjoy the snow falling out my window I am painting away at the easel on a quiet Sunday afternoon. I thought I would post my progress so that you all can follow along. I have also started to add some color to the horse and rider.

I have paused my painting session for today as I am ready to settle down with my hot cup of tea with honey and stare blankly at the television for awhile. I stopped by Congress Hall and visited with the guys, Paul and Phil. They are great guys and it is so fun to watch Phil work the crowd answering any questions people may have while Paul is busy at the laptop. Make sure to visit Phil's blog to see more on their trip experiences here at the Congress
http://philalain.blogspot.comTrottierJShttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05344754470657532143noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7569915483898218551.post-77231447966026537912008-10-07T12:32:00.002-04:002008-10-07T12:39:19.461-04:00Tuesday October 7thWell Monday has gone by and Tuesday is here. Only three days left (including today) till we pack up the truck and leave for Congress. I am very excited and at the same time dread leaving work because of what will be waiting for me when I return. I will have to deal with that when I get back I suppose. This morning I overslept and had to run out the door after my morning shower. I hope I am able to rise a little earlier tomorrow. Hmm did I remember to feed the cat this morning??? Yes, I think so.

Last night I made some adjustments on the fall landscape painting per the request of the client. I hope he will enjoy his little year round piece of New England fall. I will post pictures tomorrow.TrottierJShttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05344754470657532143noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7569915483898218551.post-38817212301333821962008-09-16T09:39:00.003-04:002008-09-16T09:49:39.099-04:00NJEAA "Art of the Horse"<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuHL6Qfh8IaFwGdpKx9qor2NdMMxY4EqvYBcPikHbt6y8COgTA3s1MpVnFpUIOfqqtnJ303DiiBJ4cy8w0EFm_wIYL84ynkeuDYBo0Sm2GA8Sq8hNIAgAu5SX7whknEInnyq7u4W2nYZyv/s320/scratchadj.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5246613626739802690" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqKSItoTLio9ctUwkkurmE93SaCUuY5Eizp1yKsOtlpoarfyBH_L7zHGHjT6_2VAh6twmWQ8BiPfHNoZdLTxPKpjr55_AFM9IHknA3qtnAEK52UeEmrPmPXa4UGwBDTkIrKco10PWD7x8J/s320/wilburadjtweb2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5246613629375643026" />

Two of my acrylic paintings were accepted into the New Jersey Equine Artists Association national juried art show "Art of the Horse" and are currently on display at the Somerset Art Association in Bedminster, New Jersey.

After attending the opening I can confidently say it is quite a beautiful show full of talented artists. During my photo session I was able to capture some amazing shots of him at play. He seems to have boundless amounts of energy.
That energy and athletic ability became my inspiration. I chose this particular image because I loved the angle he created with his body. It displays both his power and agility. A sudden change of direction with gusto makes him appear more like a cutter in this photo than a reiner but this stallion stops and spins to impress.
Reining is a demanding equestrian sport that has increased in popularity. Often compared with its english counterpart, dressage, reining is a series of patterns with specified maneuvers consisting of sliding stops, spins, flying lead changes, circles and rollbacks.Jenifer S.
